Sortie

Hi,

This one I promise to keep short, because I need to get on with the day's work. Just want to write about the free float of activity that I seem to have got into. Sometimes just feel this need to stop and disconnect from the environment to take stock of the situation and resolve on the priorities of the next phase of days. BUt just so happens, that the 'to do' thigns flash through my mind when I am actually brisking it out rather than relaxing in the pool. Maybe thats the point, relaxing is truly that, not thinking so much about business and work.

Wonder whats the ideal frame of things is. Isnt passion for your work a determining factor for success, and yet we need to disconnect with it, to make sure life is more complete and becomes a rewarding experience. Hmm. . then answer, as is always, lies in between 2 extremes. In the grey! It doesn't take merit away from either of the 2, but tries to integrate them together and mutually inclusive.

Passion is fired by the desire to realise dreams. And dreams and success are only relative to the appreciation from the people you care for and love. There surely is meaning in appreciation from the world, but it never matters more than those close to you. And having people close to you, does require spending quality time with them - which gets us back to original point, we need to take time off from the pursuing of our passion to make sure it stays that way.

Bottomline: Living with passion and striving for excellence - these surely can never be wrong philosphies.

Go for it!

The logic of dynamism!

Hi,

Keep wondering everytime I see a job advertisement or a presentationo n leadership, that dynamism is a key quality required in individuals.

At a research presentation I attended yesterday, the connection between transformational leadership and employee behaviour was being explained using some ethereal models of linear modelling (heard of HLM?). The hypothesis being tested was the positive correlation between leadership and promotion/prevention focused personalities of employees. At the end of it, I just understood that dynamic leadership is not always appreciated by the those who themsleves are not dynamic - Pretty common sensical for an endeavor that followed some 25 years of management research :) But the point I think is that, we need to understand emprical data, to be able to make a generalization and then apply to future courses.

Anyways, my concept of dynamism has always been focused on the value I place on energy and action. The essence of all people, events and accomplishments for me is the action. What is the action a person or an organization takes and does at any given point in time. Not to say thoughts are less important. But my firm belief is that thought without action can never be worthwhile, and so action always is more important. Even at the risk of less thought.

Which brings me back to the reason why many intelligent people do not see the merit in action. Maybe my way of looking at action is "proactivity", but then "reaction" is just a survival instinct, which is a ability shared by all livings things. BUt proactivity is an ability, only the human being is endowed with, through the all-powerful mind. And in this ability, men have been distinguished across history.

The logic of dynamism or rather "being driven by the need for action", thus is an implicit reference to the unique ability of the human mind 'to act'. THinking, I believe, is precluded into the concept of "Acting", because you can't act without reason.

I rest my case with just stating my strong desire to work and be with dynamic people and organizations.

Cheers,
Satish
